In fact, the region has accumulated RM5 billion worth of investments during the first quarter of the year (Q1 2013), according to Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA).
“The signs are showing that the market is bullish and investors are making their impact. The business community, including foreign and local investors, are supporting Iskandar Malaysia.”
Moreover, Iskandar Malaysia was not negatively affected by the result of the recently concluded general election, he added.
“Whatever the political situation, I am sure the leadership will be able to resolve it,” said Ismail during the graduation ceremony for the maiden batch of apprentices under the Iskandar Malaysia Creative Industry Talent Development Programme, which was jointly organised by IRDA and Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios.
The loss of Gelang Patah to the opposition will not impact Iskandar. This is because the region is administered by the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), even though it is geographically within the constituency, according to Political Analyst James Chin.
“Najib will ensure that nothing goes wrong there because there is so much business interest in the area.”
The Gelang Patah constituency is a federal seat, hence, the winning candidate will also serve as a member of parliament (MP). However, his scope of power includes executive decisions over the running of Iskandar, he noted.
Lim garnered 54,284 votes providing him a majority of almost 15,000 in the area, where the Chinese account for 52 percent of the voting population.
